No mountain will stand in the way of Malike’s mission in life. “Those in Malike’s life say he is an individual with great potential,” says his worker. Malike has a mind for business, the worker adds, and he wants to become an entrepreneur when he gets older. Perhaps he’ll even become an artist. “Malike is an intelligent, artistic young man,” his worker says. Malike puts his intelligence to work by studying math, his favorite subject. Despite his intellectual ambitions, Malike still finds time to focus on boyhood pursuits such as playing football and games with friends. He especially likes spending weekends with friends. Malike enjoys celebrating Halloween by spending time with family and friends. Malike’s favorite activities not only include playing football but also participating in youth groups at school. When he’s ready to satisfy his appetite, Malike prefers munching on sweet potatoes. Also on his list of favorites, Malike includes red for color, cheetah for animal and going on a walk for after-school activities. With his future forever family, Malike would like to exercise together, possibly at the YMCA.
Malike has displayed some challenging behavior, but he receives services to help him process his past and develop better coping skills. Malike generally gets along well with other children, but he requires close supervision around them. In school, Malike does well when he’s able to maintain focus, but he gets upset when he’s not able to take a break when he wants to.
A one- or two-parent home would be good for Malike. A potential adoptive family will need to provide a structured and stable home environment. They will need to give Malike close supervision. His new forever family must be strong advocates for the services that will help Malike thrive at home and in school. Since Malike likes animals, he would do well in a family who has pets.
Families come to Bethany hoping to adopt a child for many reasons. We work closely with these families to identify their strengths and the child they are most able to parent and we help place children of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds in the safety of a loving home.
