Ignore the Critics
If you’re looking for something more in your daily routine or are unsure about whether to pursue a hidden interest of yours, here are six reasons to ignore the critics and go for it.
Your deepest desires are often God’s desires for you. Discern your passion and commit to it. James Martin, a Jesuit priest, differentiates holy desires and surface desires in this way: “Holy desires are different than surface wants like, “I want a new car” or “I want a new computer.” Instead, I’m talking about our deepest desires, the ones that shape our lives: desires that help us know who we are to become and what we are to do. Our deep desires help us know God’s desires for us, and how much God desires to be with us.”
There were many dimensions to Jesus’ ministry, most notably a love for God and neighbor. As Jesus points out in the Gospel of John, one reason that he has come is that we, his sheep, “may have Life and have it to the full.” (John 10:10). Our lives can only be lived to the absolute fullest if we follow His example and are in tune with God’s desire for us.
